Lithology and Thickness

The Koumra Fm is predominantly made up of sandstone, with a few intercalating shales (Fig. 9 of Lenhardt et al., 2025). The thickness of the Koumra Formation is 300–600 m, and the sand-to-formation ratio is about 45%–60% (Dou et al., 2022). Sand bodies became more prominent as the lake level began to fall again during the late stage of deposition of the Koumra Formation (Zhang et al., 2024a).

Depositional setting

Lacustrine-fluvial-delta sandstone and mudstone in a highstand systems tract (Dou et al., 2022). Lacustrine to fluvial-delta sandstones and mudstones (Gao et al., 2023).
